Casting announced for Gypsy concert at Alexandre Palace

Casting has been announced for the one-off concert of Gypsy. The show will take place at the Alexandra Palace on 21 February 2022.

The cast will see seven different actresses take on the iconic role of Rose: Tracie Bennett, Nicola Hughes and Keala Settle. Also as Rose, Rebecca Lock, Samantha Spiro, Melanie La Barrie and Sally Ann Triplett.

Also joined by Laura Pitt-Pulford as Louise, Carly Mercedes Dyer as June and Christopher Howell as Herbie. Further casting include, Ebony Molina as Electra, Rachel Stanley as Mazzepa and Alexxis Owen-Hobbs as Tessie.

GYPSY premiered on Broadway in 1959 starring Ethel Merman. It was nominated for 8 Tony Awards. The show features the iconic songs ‘Everything’s Coming Up Roses’, ‘You Gotta Get A Gimmick’ and ‘Some People’ and many more.

The creative team include: Music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurents.

Additionally, Gypsy concert sees Paul Foster as the director with choreography by Joanna Goodwin. Also including, sound design by Paul Smith and musical direction by Alex Parker, he will conduct a 26-piece orchestra.

GYPSY tells the story of indomitable stage mother Rose as she chases vicarious success and stardom by pushing her daughters through the vaudeville circuit. When Baby June flees the act to elope, Rose vows to make introverted Louise into a star.
