Casting has been announced for Northern Irish Opera’s production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine‘s Into the Woods. Playing from 3rd to 27th of February at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast.
The cast includes: Kelly Mathieson as Cinderella, Sam Giffard as Red Riding Hood and Peter Hannah as Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf. Also staring, Alastair Brookshaw as the Baker, Sinéad O’Kelly as the Baker’s Wife and Paddy Jenkins as Cinderella’s father. Also featuring, Catherine Digges as Cinderella’s stepmother, Jolene O’Hara as Florinda and Brigid Shine as Lucinda. In addition to, Conor Quinn as Jack, Wendy Ferguson as Jack’s mother, Sean Kearns as the Narrator/Mysterious Man and Allison Harding as the Witch.
Completing the cast are Ruby Campbell as Sleeping Beauty, Harry Lambert as the Steward and Maeve Byrne as Snow White.
Into the Woods intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters wishes and quests.
The production has direction by Cameron Menzies with musical direction by Peter Mitchell. Additionally, Movement is by Jennifer Rooney, set and costume by Niall McKeever and lighting by Kevin Treacy.
Fun Fact: Into The Woods premiered on Broadway in 1987 and has received 10 Tony Awards and 6 Olivier Awards. The show has adapted into a film in 2014!
