BBC Strictly have announced that, Maisie Smith will replace AJ Odudu on the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour.
In the strictly 2021 series, AJ had to withdraw from the competition. AJ made it through to the final, but on her final week of training, sustained an injury. This resulted in her having a boot following ligament damage, which resulted in her pulling out of the show.
However, a few weeks after her injury, AJ confirmed she would be heading out on the Strictly Come Dancing Live UK Tour. AJ planned to perform her show dance, which she did not get to perform on the show. Upon the Live tour cast announcement, AJ said, ‘Going on the Strictly tour is a fantastic opportunity. I’ll get to dance again and relive some of my favourite routines in front of huge live arena audiences. Just get me on the dance floor!’
Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Upon receiving medical advice on her injury, AJ has now been forced to withdraw from the live tour. So stepping in, is Maisie Smith from the 2020 season of Strictly. Strictly Come Dancing Live, released this statement:
‘We are sad to announce that AJ Odudu has had to withdraw from the tour on medical advice following an injury to her foot last December. However we are happy to confirm that Strictly 2020 finalist and former EastEnders star Maisie Smith will be joining the celebrity line-up to replace her. Maisie will dance with Strictly pro Kai Widdrington.’
Maisie Smith, had this to say about being invited on the live tour: ‘I’m thrilled to be asked to restart my Strictly journey on this year’s arena tour’. Kai and I will be dancing the Quickstep and the Samba – I can’t wait for rehearsals to start next week. It will be a joy to dance with everyone and so great to see my EastEnders friend Rose again. I wish AJ a speedy recovery.’
We wish Maisie the best of luck on the live tour and send best wishes to AJ with her recovery!
